The town of Soria is an active rural settlement, although agricultural practice has decreased (its oranges and wood-fired bread are famous) and a tourist attraction, due in part to its location in the upper area of the Arguineguín ravine and also to the existence of the dam of the same name. The Soria dam, the largest in Gran Canaria (40,288,625 million m3), was completed in the early seventies of the last century. It closes the canyon of the Arguineguín ravine with a convex wall (instead of straight, to increase its resistance) made of concrete. From this nucleus you can continue walking along the road to Barranquillo Andrés, which is a short distance away. Barranquillo Andrés, one of the population centers of the middle section of the Arguineguín ravine, and is located at an altitude of 620 m.
Barranquillo Andrés and Soria are the starting area for various routes for hikers and cyclists, such as the Degollada de Majada Alta, Presa de Las Niñas route, the route of the dams and many others that even reach the town of Mogán.
